Andy Murray survived a late night Centre Court scare to join Jo Konta in the last 16 at Wimbledon
.The world No.1 dropped his first set of The Championships to maverick Italian Fabio Fognini – and saved five set points to stop the thriller going to a fifth set.
But despite struggling with his injured hip, the top seed battled back from 2-5 down in the fourth set to win 6-2 4-6 6-1 7-5 in two hours and 39 minutes.
The third round clash finished in fading light at 8.58pm in a sensational atmosphere.
Murray has now reached the last 16 here in his last 10 appearances.Fellow British No.1 Konta reached the fourth round for the first time here with a 6-4 6-1 win over Greece's Maria Sakkari.
The defending champion, who faces Frenchman Benoit Paire on Monday, said: “Obviously at the end the match was tense. I didn't feel it was the best tennis – it was a bit tense at times but I managed to get through.
"It is obviously difficult when you are playing against a guy with all the shots like him. We would probably have come off and the roof would have been closed if it had gone to the fifth set.
