Following claims by Arsenal legend Ian Wright that Arsene Wenger had given the impression he’d be leaving the club by the end of the season, the Arsenal Boss has said he is not ready to ‘rest’.
The Frenchman said he did not give any indication on his future as Arsenal manager to Ian Wright.
“We had a little dinner, not the two of us. I appreciate you (Wright) want me to rest but I’m not ready for that,” said Wenger, after his side claimed a 2-0 victory against Hull City on Saturday.
Wright had earlier told BBC Radio 5 live on Friday that spoke with Wenger on Thursday night.
“I was with him for a few hours last night and we’re talking.
“He actually mentioned while we were talking last night that it’s coming to the end. I’ve never heard him say that.”
But Wenger, who was appointed Gunners manager in September 1996, added: “I could be tired because I get up early in the morning.”
The 67-year old is the longest-serving Premier League manager, and his current contract will expire by the end of this campaign.
Wenger last won the Premier League title in 2004 and has been under pressure following defeats by Watford and Chelsea – what looked like another failed attempt at the title.
But after Arsenal’s victory against Hull, the Boss said: “I focus on what is important: winning football games and getting the team to perform. The rest, I cannot influence.
“My job is to make these people happy and when I don’t do that I feel guilty – that’s why it’s important for us to win.”
